Three Years for Zoey

Zoey had her third birthday last month and I am finally getting around to chronicling it. I keep telling her that she cannot grow up. She is my baby and I cannot stand her turning three and having to pack away the high chair and other baby items, not knowing if they will ever be needed again. She assures me at times that she is not growing up. :) She is so sweet and spicy. Just this week when I interrupted her playing with her cousins, she told me several times, "Go back to work, Mom." Ouch! She also started saying, "Fine!" in her exasperated voice. I don't know what I am going to do with her in these coming years if she keeps this up! At the same time, she told me at dinner tonight, "Mom, you look pwetty." After months and months of her being such a hardcore Daddy's girl, often preferring him over me, she has been warming up to me more. I know it is weird, but I am pretty sensitive to that kind of thing. Moms that are home with their children all day seem to more easily hold their children's preference. I guess the whole 'hand that rocks the cradle' bit holds a little true, and it can be hard to find balance when juggling so much. Anyways, Zach was glued to his dad forever. Maybe the fact that Corey has provided the majority of the childcare this past year has something to do with the whole dynamic. Thankfully, both kids have been much more sweet and affectionate toward me in the past month or two than before. They are still always sweet with Corey. I think Zoey is maybe getting to the age where she sees the gender differences and just wants to be with Mom a little more, which makes me feel better about why Zach clung so tightly to Corey at this age. Recently, she grabbed a purse and said, "Goodbye, Mom. I'm going to work. I gotta fix somebody's teef, not get any peanuts in it (? I don't know what this has to do with dentistry!), and floss somebody's teef!" Little cutie! She has also been singing songs from "Frozen," the latest Disney flick. It is so fun to have a baby girl in the house! I am so grateful for her.

We had a few different parties for her, with cousins and pinatas and Carl's Jr., but never got closure on the subject until we had a real birthday cake and balloons nearly a month after the big day. She only ate two bites of the cake, but it provided the satisfaction she needed to move on! We got her a mermaid Barbie and a Disney princess music player, the movie "Frozen," and a few other things, but her favorite gift was a musical card that played 'Shake Your Booty'! She keeps things lively in our home, and we are so blessed with her tender, innocent spirit.

One of your three birthday parties with cousins. You and "Fafie" are two peas in a pod!

Zoey and Zach play pretty well together most of the time, though they can fight pretty well also.

 My gorgeous girl

This one cracks me up when she gets bored of singing at the end and starts doing chasses accross the floor!

Your first day of Preschool last fall.
These were last year at Easter
Your first dance recital. You are still loving to sing and dance.

Happy Birthday little Zoey. It gets harder and harder for me to have my children grow up-but at the same time easier-I don't think I ever make any sense... Perhaps it is harder to see them pass the milestones of the first couple of years. Then when their growing slows, I get less freaked out on a daily basis and just have a head game when I think about them turning 5 or 7 or whatever...I am rambling. My children have almost always preferred their dad over me. Lola the most-which makes sense since I was in grad school when she was born and Aaron literally spent 90% of the time with her until she was two. Poppy and Wren liked me best at first because I nurse them and what not (nursed Poppy until she was three), but Poppy is now totally a daddy's girl-as is Lola. Wren is a momma's girl for now, but already I see this changing. I am pretty sure those days are numbered. I have been sensitive about this as well, but if I really think about it, I am glad that they have such a good relationship with their dad (and maybe I even like the alone time it offers me). I guess I will take what I get and be happy about it. Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE ZOEY!
